AMERICA'S CUP, who joined Dermot Weld a month ago, was all the rage for last evening's Andersen Race at Tipperary but, while looking the likely winner under Michael Kinane early in the straight, had no reply to the James Burns trained Dancing Hours who prevailed by a neck.
The narrow winner of her maiden at Roscommon on her previous appearance, Mrs Tony O'Reilly's Dancing Hours will probably run next in another conditions race.
Life Support was another expensive failure for punters, this time in the Breeders Supporting Novice Hurdle. She appeared to be cantering behind Frau Dante and Tarajan on turning for home but lost her action for four or five strides before the last flight and was pulled up by Paul Carberry. The Paddy Prendergast trained Killarney winner Tarajan went on to beat Frau Dante by a length and is likely to run at Tralee next week.
Heavy rain had softened the track considerably and this was reflected in The European Breeders Fund Maiden being run in over a minute. Hartstown House broke well for Stephen Craine on the far rails and made all the running to beat the warm favourite Nidaa by three lengths.
Craine completed a double when landing Trapped the half length winner of the European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden. Michael Smurfit's filly, who met with some traffic problems at Galway, was prominent throughout and eventually got the upperhand of Fairy Song. Winning trainer Pat Flynn may next step her up for a listed race.
Local trainer Tommy Stack has had little luck this season but with the success of High Powered at Tramore and now Antithesis in the ITBA Breeders Supporting Tipperary Handicap his fortunes are hopefully on the upturn. Ridden by Wayne Smith the winner collared Tinker Amelia near home to scored snugly enough by a neck.
. Tom Gallagher has lifted the title of Fitzpatrick Silver Springs Jockey of the Season, for point to point amateur riders.
