Lazio claim they have closed the door on Nicolas Anelka's move to Rome. The Italian club's agent said last night that "crazy" money being asked by Arsenal has been the biggest hitch in the transfer. Vincenzo Morabito, the FIFA agent who has been working for Lazio in their bid to sign the 20-year-old, put the blame mainly on Arsenal for their £22 million price tag, but also on the Anelka clan and their agents.
Anelka, meanwhile, has branded as "comical" the club's attempt to recall him to Highbury.
Anelka told French newspaper Le Parisien that he will not be returning to England.
"It's comical. I think they'll be waiting for me for a long time. I'm fine. I'm calm. Tonight I am going to play a match with some friends on a field near my house. Actually this break from soccer will be good for me. I've recharged my batteries for this season which looks like being a long one."
Celtic last night confirmed French midfielder Stephane Bonnes has agreed a four-year deal to join them under freedom of contract from FC Mulhouse. Viewed as a player for the future by Celtic head coach John Barnes, the 21-yearold impressed as a trialist during the Parkhead club's recent tour of Norway.
