The horrible weather ruined the golfing plans of many last weekend but not Woodbrook member Ivan Dempsey, who played the round of a lifetime in the worst of the wind and rain at the Wicklow venue.
On a morning when some gave up as early as the fourth hole and even former international Liam MacNamara called an early halt, 11-handicapper Dempsey went round in level par 72 for a magnificent haul of 47 stableford points. He was six shots better than anyone else on the day and was cut to nine for his efforts.
