Toms The Best blasted his way into the record books with an emphatic victory in last night's £50,000 William Hill Greyhound Derby final at Wimbledon. Nick Savva's June '95 powerhouse became the first greyhound to complete an Irish and English Derby double with a four-and-a-quarter lengths win over Tuesdays Davy.

A tricky trap four berth and a spot of early bunching would have been too much for any other hound to handle around Wimbledon's notoriously demanding 480-metre circuit but once Toms the Best turned off the second bend just a length behind the striped jacket of Tuesdays Davy the race was as good as over as he produced his trademark back-stretch kick to cruise past the leader.
