Derry ... 1-14 Wexford ... 2-16 Derry gave Wexford a real scare at Lavey on Saturday. The Ulster side led by seven points early in the second half before eventually succumbing to a final-quarter scoring blitz.
Early on it looked like everything was going to go according to the script with Anthony O'Leary putting the visitors a goal to the good from their very first attack, scrambling home a rebound after Kieran Stevenson had saved his initial effort.
Derry dominated the rest of the opening period. Gregory Biggs was having a stormer at midfield and his fourth point of the half saw Derry leading 0-13 to 1-5 at the break.
Wexford began to take control around the middle of the field and when O'Leary got his second goal, palming Darren Stamp's long pass to the net to reduce the deficit to 2-9 to 1-14, Wexford tails were up.
