Malone relinquished their position at the top of the Division Two table when Sunday's Well produced one of their better performances of the season in Belfast. The home side had been leading the division for practically the whole season but went down to three second-half tries from right wing John O'Neill.
The only home score arrived at the end when all had been decided, Mark Crowthers crashing over for a consolation in the 7-28 defeat. While the result does not do any serious damage to Malone's promotion prospects, they are now under pressure to win their remaining games and lie a point behind DLSP who now top the table.
DLSP kept their hopes burning with a powerful display against lowly Ballynahinch, running in three tries against the bottom placed side. Ballynahinch have yet to win a game.
Eddie Devitt picked up a try in each half to add to right wing John Corr's effort with out-half Dave O'Riordan contributing with three penalties.
Dungannon, who are perhaps the most serious contenders for promotion continued to show their strength in a high scoring 2331 win over Dolphin at Musgrave Park. Although struggling at the wrong end of the table Dolphin pushed the Ulster side for the entire game.
David Humphreys dictated the play and contributed three penalties and a conversion with tries coming from Charlie Simpson, Robert Morrow, Alistair Hood and Andrew Hughes.
Old Belvedere kept their hat in the ring with a 16-12 win over Skerries at Anglesea Road with Donal Martin contributing all the scores with a try, penalty and conversion. Skerries, struggling at the bottom, needed more from this closely contested match but in the latter stages the Belvedere pack dominated with Steve Dods and Steve Walsh strong in the back row.
Old Wesley earned an important draw with UCC in the Mardyke. But it took an 85th minute penalty from teenager David Smith to ensure the point. Smith, making his All-Ireland League debut, kicked his side's 35 metre equaliser as the students led 12-9 going into injury time.
Full-back Colin Healy opened the scoring with a try after 10 minutes for UCC with centre Paul Barry adding another in the second period before they allowed the relegation-threatened Dublin side back in.
Greystones also gathered some vital points at the expense of Bective Rangers at Donnybrook. But it took a drop goal from the Greystone's scrum-half Ian Sherwin to give them the full points as the scores stood at 10-10 in the final minute of the match.
