Football: Westmeath captain Dessie Dolan should know during the week if he will be fit to play Offaly in the first round of the Leinster championship on Sunday week at Croke Park.
Westmeath manager Tomas Ó Flatharta said the result of a scan on a hamstring injury should be available in a day or two.
Dolan may be forced to undergo surgery to clear up the ailment but Ó Flatharta said: "It really is a case of wait and see. He has been bothered by it for some time, but hopefully it will be sorted out before too long."
Dolan was not risked when Westmeath played Galway in their final pre-championship game at Pearse Stadium on Friday night, when Galway's Seán Armstrong scored 2-2 after coming on at half-time to force a 2-9 to 0-15 draw.
Ó Flatharta, who fielded a near full-strength side against a depleted Galway outfit, was not unduly bothered by the result. "We needed a game and it was a good workout," he said. "We should know the situation with Dessie this week and all our attention is on the Offaly game on May 14th."
