Top-seed John Doran moved into the quarter-finals of the Danone Irish Close tennis championships after beating Naas teenager Mark Finnegan 6-3, 6-3.
Finnegan is in his first year in senior tennis following a junior career laden with promise.
Whereas Doran has "been there done that" as a graduate of Harvard, Finnegan jets off to the US in a couple of weeks to pursue a course at Georgia University.
Doran takes on another former junior of note in Stephen Taylor, but his main threat Peter Clarke is emerging with ease from the bottom half of the draw.
Holder Elsa O'Riain has only dropped three games en route to the semi-finals but things become more difficult, starting today against Emma Doyle.
