FAI CUP THIRD ROUND Wexford Youths 2 Longford Town 2: A SUPERB Gavin Doyle strike, his second of the game, three minutes into additional time gave Wexford Youths a dramatic draw with Longford Town at Ferrycarrig Park yesterday evening.
After a forgettable opening 45 minutes, Longford eventually broke the deadlock in the 61st minute.
The home defence only partially cleared a Jason McCartney freekick and Gary Curran was on hand to power a low right-footed shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net from outside the area.
Longford looked destined for the next round as they added a second on 71 minutes when substitute Adrian Murphy headed home a McCartney free-kick which had been flicked on by Brian McCarthy.
However, Doyle began Wexford’s comeback by firing home in the 82nd minute. Liam Lynch was penalised for handball and although Doyle’s initial effort was was parried by Anthony Fennelly the former followed up to knock home the rebound. Wexford kept plugging away and with time almost up Doyle struck again to earn his side a late reprieve.
