But in the hope that Gary Carter can still get a decent position early on, the gallant nine-year-old is the choice to take the honours.

He has been campaigned this season at trips of up to a mile and a half and this step up in distance to an extended 14 furlongs will test his stamina fully. But his hurdles form over distances in excess of two miles suggests that he will still get home.
