Tony Mullins's prolific scorer Lady Daisy was destroyed after breaking her off-fore in a crashing fall at the penultimate flight in yesterday's EBF Clonmel Printers Beginners Chase. Before a bumper Clonmel crowd, the nine-year-old grey, carrying the colours of Paddy Keogh, held a narrow advantage at the time and, according to rider Adrian O'Shea, gave herself no chance: "She walked straight into it and I could do nothing."
Trainer Mullins was distraught on arriving at the scene along with her owner after their mare, winner of seven races under national hunt rules and close on £70,000 in prize-money, was humanely put down several minutes after suffering the tragic fall.
Victory went to Tom Taaffe's Dudley Do Right which justified strong support from 3 to 1 down to 7 to 4 favourite. Jason Titley was always travelling well on the winner and he soon gained the initiative over the last to run out the four-length winner from Magical Approach.
Charlie Swan's Broguestown Breeze was all the rage in the ring before the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle. Supported from 5 to 1 to the head of the market at 2 to 1, he set out to make all under the champion rider. But it was not to be. Headed before the turn-in after coming under pressure by another well-supported charge, Finchogue, Broguestown Breeze eventually finished third. Victory went to the Mouse Morris-trained Master Of Illusion who drew steadily clear on the uphill climb to the line in the hands of Shay Barry to land the spoils by eight lengths.
The winner is owned by Marie Jordan, wife of Jordan Formula One boss Eddie.
Paul Carberry teamed up successfully with Seamus O'Farrell's Strong Boost to bring his tally to 41, five behind leader Ruby Walsh in the riders championship race.
The winner (which contested two races over the Murphys weekend at Cheltenham, his best effort when fourth behind Capenwray on the Sunday), was supported from 7 to 1 to 5 to 1, and under a determined drive from the Meathman stayed on from the last to hold off last week's Tramore scorer Hakkinen and the veteran Final Tub.
