Galwegians' return to the top of Division One comes in the wake of coach John Kingston announcing his departure from the club.

Kingston, formerly with Richmond, has guided Galwegians in the last two seasons from Division Two to today's match as they seek a top four play-off spot. Kingston will take up his new coaching role with Harlequins on July 1st. Although always in the driving seat, it took until the stroke of full time before right wing Gavin Duffy scored under the post to give Galwegians their fourth try and bonus point.

Galwegians led 22-6 at halftime but a tenacious Old Crescent held them scoreless in the second half until Duffy's try sealed the issue.

It had started promisingly for Galwegians. Elwood added the conversion to Willie Ruane's 10th minute try and added a penalty to give Galwegians a 100 lead. Gavin Duffy tidied up an Old Crescent miss pass on halfway to score in the right corner and when centre Mervyn Murphy added the third try before the break there seemed little doubt where the points were headed.

Old Crescent's only response were two penalties from outhalf Billy Treacy. But as the heavens opened so did Old Crescent's determination. Once again a superb tackle from left wing Denver Rumney kept them out after lock Matt Bird made a telling break from the 10 metre line.

Des Clohessy's sin-binning may not have helped their cause, but then centre Wayne Munn took a skip pass from Treacy he sliced through the Galwegian cover to score. Treacy added the conversion and a 72nd minute penalty to bring them within seven points. It would have been a fair reward for Old Crescents' gutsy display but Galwegian and Ireland under-21 international Duffy had the final say after taking Murphy's inside pass on the burst.
