Philip Duignan of the Irish team took over the lead in the NCBI Stena Junior Tour when he took the second stage in Skerries.

The young rider was active for most of the 46-mile hilly stage, which was enlivened by a big crash on the first lap and a subsequent spate of attacks which saw a six-man group draw clear.

On the last of six laps, only three remained up front; Duignan, Joost Van Leijen of the Dutch Tempo Veldhoven squad and Britain's Ben Clarke. Duignan outsprinted breakaway companion Van Leijen to take a fine victory and the yellow jersey.
