With four defeats from their last five games, the most recent of which at UCD last week was described by manager, Martin Murray, as a "shocking" performance, it's not the ideal time for Dundalk to be playing the in-form league leaders.
"We have struggled to string two good performances together, so hopefully we can't be as bad again," says Murray, who admitted to being under pressure. "We have to concentrate on getting our game right. Any team that's in Rovers' position and playing as well as they are is full of confidence, but we have to make it as difficult as possible for them. It's a big test for us."
Murray isn't helped by the continued absence of winger James Keddy (ankle) and the suspension of central defender Stephen McGuinness. David Hoey will come in at right back with Donal Broughan moving across to partner Aaron Callaghan in centre of defence.
Rovers, seven points better off than at this stage last season, can really throw down the gauntlet to their title challengers by going seven points clear at the top with a win. It's a scenario on which manager Damien Richardson refuses to dwell, however.
"The build up of excitement over our on-field displays is superseded by what's happening with the stadium," said Richardson. "Moving into Tallaght will be the main progression this season."
Jason Colwell (calf) joins Greg Costello (calf), Seβn Francis (hamstring) and Tony Grant (calf) on the treatment table and none are likely to play. Pat Deans continues at right back while Shane Robinson stands by to come into midfield to partner captain Derek Tracey.
