GOLF: American Scott Dunlap negotiated a turbulent second day of the Dimension Data Pro-Am to claim the clubhouse lead in the weather-interrupted second round yesterday.

Dunlap, winner of the 1999 title, posted a three-under par 69 at the Gary Player Country Club to take him into the clubhouse on seven-under 137.

Rain and lightning delayed the scheduled 7 a.m. start, with play only getting underway at 11.30 a.m. As a result, 61 golfers, including overnight leaders Ireland's Darren Clarke and Uli Weinhandl will have to complete their second rounds this morning.

The duo managed to finish only a few holes. Clarke came through nine holes one worse than his overnight score on eight-under for the tournament, while Weinhandl has dropped to six-under through six holes.

But for the second week running, Dunlap has managed to beat the bad weather.

"Brilliant. I was in the last group to finish (the third round) at Houghton last week (during the dunhill championship) before the siren blew. I've had a string of good luck here with the weather," Dunlap said.

Limerick's Tim Rice is one under par after eight holes while Padraig Dooley and James Loughnane also have to finish.
