Schools' rugby Leinster Senior Cup/Templeogue College 9 Skerries CC 9: An injury-time penalty by James Dunne rescued the game for Templeogue College at Dr Hickey Park yesterday.
The high wind made running rugby impossible and the two respective kickers determined the game's outcome.
On the one occasion the ball was moved through the hands it took a try-saving tackle from Skerries wing Ruari O'Connor to deny a certain Templeogue score in the left hand corner. It had come at a stage in the second half when Templeogue, with the aid of the breeze, were chasing Skerries' half-time 9-0 lead.
All three penalties kicked by Skerries before the interval had come from outhalf Eoghan Dempsey. But Templeogue began their comeback shortly after the restart when number eight Dunne kicked a penalty. He landed his second just short of the hour mark.
Skerries captain Philip Matthews was sin-binned with a quarter of an hour to go and Templeogue drew level deep into injury time. It came after Skerries were penalised for "squeezing the ball" and Dunne landed the penalty from the halfway line.
