Dutch international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy still sees his future at Manchester United.
Van Nistelrooy was on the verge of a £19million move to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven when a knee injury wrecked the move and threatened his career. However, the 24-yearold returned to training yesterday and said of Manchester United: "I have a great feeling for that club and that hasn't changed."
United manager Alex Ferguson wants to see van Nistelrooy in action before deciding whether he will make a second move for him.
"I think he is right," van Nistelrooy told Radio Five Live. "First of all I have to be fit and then we will see how things are going. I can see myself playing there (Old Trafford), but for me it's the first step so it's hard to look further than that.
Van Nistelrooy expects to be back playing first team football with PSV before the end of the season. He should step up to full squad training within four weeks.
Van Nistelroy's prospective team-mate, defender Gary Neville, has been reported to the Football Association following an alleged incident in the tunnel after Sunday's FA Cup defeat against West Ham. It is believed that England full back Neville abused an assistant and it is likely that the player will face an FA misconduct charge.
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has given his biggest hint yet that West Ham's Joe Cole is not far away from a full international debut. After watching him help beat Manchester United on Sunday, England's new coach labelled the midfielder "one of the biggest young talents I've seen in this country".
The Scottish Premier League has confirmed February's Old Firm clash will be the latest pay-per-view match to be shown on Sky Box Office.
Celtic play host to Rangers at Parkhead on February 11th and fans will have to dip in their pockets to watch the game.
Northern Ireland will play Norway in a friendly at Windsor Park on Wednesday, February 28th.
Norway have resolved their contract row with several top players, including Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and have promised to send a strong squad to Belfast.
Soccer-Scholes wants McClaren to be next United manager
England international Paul Scholes wants Manchester United's assistant manager Steve McClaren to take over when Alex Ferguson retires as the English club's manager at the end of next season.
I think it would be better to have someone who knows the players and Steve has to be in with a shout, Scholes said on the club's official website.
It means we would not have to start afresh with a new man. We would have someone who knows the players inside out, someone who knows what he can get out of the players here. McClaren, 39, is also coveted by the English Football Association and has been part of the England coaching set-up since the resignation of manager Kevin Keegan last October.
Manchester City manager Joe Royle has revealed he placed Paulo Wanchope on the transfer list after a "series of incidents".
"We have decided it is in the best interest of the club and the player we part company," said Royle. "There have been several incidents with the player which have not been publicised. I wanted to think things over at the weekend before meeting with Paulo today. I wanted to see what Paulo's reaction would be when he came into training today but there was none."
Leading scorer Wanchope was withdrawn after an ineffective performance against Coventry on Saturday and replaced by Shaun Goater, who scored the winner in the last minute. As he left the pitch he gesticulated to the coaching staff and brushed past physio Rob Harris.
