Aidan O'Brien's King George hero Dylan Thomas looks like heading a powerful Ballydoyle challenge on next week's Ebor festival at York where the star four-year-old will attempt to win Tuesday's Group One Juddmonte International at the second time of asking.
Dylan Thomas was out of the firing line in last year's Juddmonte won by Notnowcato but a rematch between the two now looks likely with O'Brien yesterday indicating that his other star older horse, George Washington, will wait for next month's Irish Champion Stakes.
"At this stage, it looks like Dylan Thomas and Duke Of Marmalade will run in the Juddmonte. George Washington is unlikely and we might wait for Leopardstown instead with him. But they all still have bits of work to do and we will be keeping an eye on the ground over there," the champion trainer said.
O'Brien also reported that the star fillies, Peeping Fawn and Alexandrova will both take part in the Yorkshire Oaks while the course winner Theann could return for the Group One sprint feature, the Nunthorpe Stakes.
On the juvenile front, the 1,000 Guineas favourite You'resothrilling is expected to run in the Lowther Stakes while the two colts, Lucifer Sam and Belgrave Square, are in the frame for the Acomb Stakes.
Horse Racing Ireland confirmed yesterday that yesterday's cancelled Gowran Park meeting following heavy rain, has been rescheduled to October 4th.
However, the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes has been transferred to Leopardstown this Sunday and will be run over nine furlongs.
Meanwhile, an across-the-board 3lb hike in handicap qualifying marks was among the steps announced by Horse Racing Ireland yesterday as the sport's ruling body published a policy paper designed to try and cope with the severe balloting problem in the sport.
