Elie Hennau overcame travel difficulties to ride Flying Eagle to victory in the Moet and Chandon Silver Magnum Stakes (Handicap) for amateur jockeys at Epsom yesterday.
The Belgian, who works for an insurance company in Brussels, turned up at the airport without his passport and had to send his girlfriend home to get it before catching a later plane. Compared to that his ride in the so-called amateur Derby was hitch free.
Sitting third at Tattenham Corner - just as you are supposed to do in the professional Derby - Hennau ushered Gary Moore's cantering six-year-old past Hibernate well over one out and the combination went on to beat the pacemaker by seven lengths.
Frankie Dettori did best of those who get paid for riding with a treble, the middle section of which was Happy Change in the Tiffany & Co Conditions Stakes -the five-year-old winning for the first time for Mark Johnston with a two-and-a-half-length defeat of Muhib. Dettori's first victory came in the Tote Bookmakers Sprint on the Brian Meehan-trained Emma Peel, who benefited from being restrained behind a strong pace to beat Angie Baby.
Dettori's threesome was achieved with Godolphin's Kafhanee, who was made to work at odds of 1 to 6 to half-length Generous Diana.
Paul Fitzsimons was given a one-day suspension for careless riding in the Tokyo Trophy Nursery.
