Who scored the first par, the first birdie, the first bogey of the new millennium? Definitive statistics are not yet available, but Mick Quaide of Newcastle West and Harry Walsh of Kilternan must be among the pace-setters in the hole in one category in this country. Quaide aced the fifth hole at approximately 12.18 p.m. and around the same time Walsh aced the ninth hole in the New Year's Day competition which was won by Phil Troy, an 18 handicap, who scored 34 points for the 15 holes to win by one from Ronan Dodd (22) on 33 points.
For the record Walsh hit a nine iron at the 105-metre hole. Quaide's ace was not enough to take his team to victory in the as Comortas na Nollag competition at Ceann Sibeal. That honour went to Blaithin Ni Bhric, Eibhlin Ni Sheaghdha, Maire Ni Mhaoileoin and Colette Ashe with 91 points.
