Balbriggan won the All-Ireland Ladies Fourball Championship, sponsored by Ulster Bank, when they defeated Galway Bay in the final at Athlone last Friday. Marian Griffin and Evelyn Clinton got Balbriggan off to a good start with a 3 and 2 win over Clare Porter and Mary Corcoran and the anchor pairing of Nicola Campbell and Lindsey Freehill were in great form to defeat Clare McGrady and Norrie Kearney 6 and 5. The remaining match was called in allowing Imelda O'Shea and Maureen Hackett to join in the celebrations.

Galway Bay shouldn't be too downhearted - it was a fine achievement to reach the final, as the club has a very small base of competition-playing women.
