Ireland has secured European money to set up a new anti-doping project called CAFDIS, which will also involve the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Ireland.
Dr Joe Cummiskey of Blackrock clinic, who is a member of the IOC medical Commission, will set up the scheme which is designed to pool and continually update world information on doping in sport. Part of the project is to set up a website which is to be based in the Blackrock Clinic.
The website, which can be accessed by athletes, coaches, sports, administrators, arbitrators, medical personnel and sports media outlets will be structured to help educate all levels of sports people.
Dr Cummiskey will co-ordinate the project with the main core partner being the IOC-approved laboratory in Athens. Work on CAFDIS will begin immediately following a meeting in Brussels later this month.
