Connacht football received a boost at Tuam Stadium last night when a provincial under-17 selection shocked the touring Aussie youths in a very exciting Compromise Rules game.
It was believed to have been the first ever victory by an Irish football team over the Aussies outside of the international series and the large vocal Connacht following gave their young heroes a standing ovation at the final whistle.
Connacht led after all four quarters, by 10-7, 22-8, 35-14 and, most decisively at the end when the margin was an amazing 30.
The big area of dominance for Connacht was midfield where Galway's Joe Bergin, Conor Coyne and later Kieran Comer played magnificently.
