Manchester United have been fined £14,500 by Uefa following the crowd trouble at the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Roma. The Italian club were fined £31,000 at the same disciplinary hearing.

Fans of both clubs threw missiles at each other and also clashed with Italian police, who were heavily criticised for their behaviour by United supporters following the incident at Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Both clubs have three days in which to appeal after receipt of the written grounds for the decision.

Meanwhile, despite reports to the contrary, Paul Scholes did not receive a booking in Tuesday's match, and will be available for the second leg at the San Siro.
