Britain and Ireland were locked in a three-way tie for second place after three rounds of the 72-hole Eisenhower Trophy, the men's world amateur championship, in Santiago, Chile.

Luke Donald spearheaded the third round effort of skipper Peter McEvoy's four-man squad with a three-under-par 69, while Scot Lorne Kelly, the Lytham Trophy winner, had a par 72.

The team's other counting score in the best-three-from-four format was a 74 from Gary Wolstenholme. Ireland's Paddy Gribben shot a disappointing 76.

They join defending champions Australia and the tournament favourites USA on one-under-par 644.
