Finsceal Beo is set to try and maintain the Group One run of Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning in Saturday's Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes but she could have to dethrone the reigning champion, Dylan Thomas, in order to do so.

Bolger has confirmed his star double classic winner will step up to a mile and a quarter for the first time at Leopardstown this weekend, and ground conditions should suit Finsceal Beo as the Leopardstown authorities are preparing to water the course this week if necessary.

That will also be good news for Aidan O'Brien, who will pick from a trio of last season's winner Dylan Thomas, George Washington and Duke Of Marmalade for a mile-and-a-quarter highlight he has landed four times in the last seven years.

The last overseas winner was Grandera from Godolphin in 2002 but the composition of the cross-channel challenge will be clearer after today's vital forfeit stage.

Today's home action at Roscommon will include the Bolger-trained Malande's attempt to rack up a hat-trick in the mile-and-a-half handicap.

The wide-margin Tralee and Curragh winner is up 19lb in the ratings, however, and an each-way alternative could be Charyan, who is better on the flat than over hurdles.

Graceful Star chased home the classic prospect Katiyra on her second start at Leopardstown and there should be nothing of that class in today's opener.
