Galway United 2 Bray Wanderers 2 AN INTERESTING encounter on the banks of the Corrib ended without a winner last night. Bray came from behind to lead late on, but Galway recovered as a delightful Anto Flood header rescued a point for Seán Connor's side.
The locals were encouraged by Galway’s enthusiastic start which was flecked with decent football against an outfit that played five in midfield. Despite the numerical disadvantage in the centre of the park, there was a commendable mixture of spirit and skill in the approach of Galway’s duo Ciarán Foley and Stephen O’Donnell.
The first goal arrived in the 12th minute when Galway winger Derek O’Brien made a burst down the left flank. He supplied a deep cross and Gary Curran reacted sharply to nudge Galway ahead.
Bray restored parity 45 seconds after the restart courtesy of an opportunistic Shane O’Neill goal.
John Mulroy’s pass released O’Neill, who was crafty enough to evade Jamie McKenzie’s challenge before rattling the Galway net.
A Robbie Doyle free-kick edged Bray ahead on 78 minutes, but Galway summoned a response as Flood thumped a sweet 83rd-minute header into the top corner.
