Roscommon's four-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at Ardfinnan where Tipperary, who enjoyed a 1-5 to 0-2 interval lead, held firm after the restart.

Tipperary got off to a flying start and had their opening score from full back Conor O'Dwyer from Kilmacud Crokes, who hit a point after five minutes. Then man of the match midfielder Derry Foley fisted home a Brian Burke centre to the back of the net in the sixth minute.

Roscommon began the second half with a Jason Neary point after a minute and threatened to over-run the home side. However, Tipperary's second Kilmacud Crokes player, John Costello, steadied the home side with a fine point after 36 minutes.
