A former England fast bowler Neil Foster took a hat-trick at Lord's yesterday to extinguish Irish hopes of beating the MCC.
Foster (35), who made his final Test appearance in 1993, showed he still has a bit of pace in taking the wickets of Ed Joyce, Peter Davy and Derek Heasley in successive deliveries. The first two were bowled via the inside edge and lbw but Foster needed luck to complete the hat-trick when Heasley's tentative poke was fumbled by second slip only to be held on the rebound by third.
Jason Molins and Kyle McCallan both scored half centuries in a partnership of 95 and captain Justin Benson took advantage of the short grandstand boundary to lift two of his three sixes. But he was well held at slip immediately after reaching 50 and the home side wrapped up a 61-run win when last man Gary Neely played around a straight one.
