The German Soccer Federation (DFB) said a new foundation against violence in football will be named after Daniel Nivel - the French policeman beaten into a coma by German hooligans at the World Cup finals.
The DFB, world and European bodies FIFA and UEFA, as well as the French Soccer Federation (FFF) are planning to launch the new foundation, based in Switzerland, next year.
"The foundation will be aimed at fighting any forms of violence in football," the DFB said in a statement released yesterday.
Nivel was in a coma for six weeks after the June 21st attack in which he was clubbed repeatedly following the World Cup first round match between Germany and Yugoslavia in Lens.
He has since come out of a coma and is making a slow recovery. According to his physicians, he still has difficulty in understanding and communicating.
