NAMIBIAN sprinter Frankie Fredericks will attempt to break the world 150 metre record at the Welsh Games in Cardiff late next month, games organiser Colin Jackson revealed yesterday.
The former 110 metre hurdles champion Jackson was delighted he persuaded Fredericks, a four-time Olympic silver medallist and a former world champion, to take part.
"It is the first time a Welsh audience will have the chance to see Frankie in action in the flesh and I am sure he will not let them down," said Jackson about the May 31st record attempt.
"It is going to be a tremendous meeting and although we are not yet sure exactly who he will be up against I know that Ian Mackie, will be one of his opponents.
Linford Christie will also be taking part in the May 31st event although he is not expected to race against Fredericks, his great rival over 100 metres, and is expected to contest the shorter distance.
