Today's other stories in brief
KICK FADA: John Brennan from Carlow fought off stiff competition to be crowned the All-Ireland champion on Saturday at Bray Emmets with a winning kick of 67 metres.
Louth's Seán Connolly was runner up with Bray Emmets' own Niall Gaffney coming in third.
A star studded cast of footballers, including Dublin's Mark Vaughan and Johnny Magee and Monaghan pair Dick Clerkin and John Paul Moane, lined out for the eight annual Kick Fada.
In the women's final, Irene Munnelly (pictured right) from Wolfe Tones in Navan won with a successful kick from 45 metres. Christine Murphy of Wicklow and Bray Emmets' Aisling O'Hanaig shared second place.
CROKE PARK:The GAA and Croke Park stadium authorities have issued an apology to supporters who experienced delays when purchasing tickets and while queuing to gain access to Croke Park yesterday.
The GAA said the delays occurred because of a technical malfunction with the computer system used for printing tickets.
Approximately 1,000 patrons who had not purchased tickets were granted free admission to the stadium when gates were opened to relieve congestion at the main turnstiles.
LEITRIM:Last year's beaten finalists St Mary's were deserving winners of an entertaining Leitrim football final played before a large crowd at Páirc Seán Mhic Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday.
Although Kiltubrid led by two points to one after 15 minutes, St Mary's spearheaded by man of the match James Glancy, Jimmy Guckian and Gene Bohan, scored four points to Kiltubrid's one in the second quarter and led comfortably 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
While Kiltubrid scored two goals in the second period - through substitute JP O'Donoghue and Chris Carroll - St Mary's deservedly held out, 0-11 to 2-3, to claim their fourth county title.
AUSSIE RULES: Collingwood - with former Down minor football star Martin Clarke starring - ended the 2007 AFL finals campaign of the Sydney Swans at the weekend. The Magpies will now take on West Coast after the 18-17 (125) to 13-9 (87) win at the MCG. Swans were without Tadhg Kennelly, who failed a late fitness test on a dislocated kneecap.
In next weekend's other semi-final, North Melbourne face Hawthorn. The semi-final winners will face Geelong and Port Adelaide in the preliminary finals.
TYRONE: County senior football champions Errigal Ciarán have been knocked out of the 2007 championship by Donaghmore, who scored a 0-11 to 0-9 quarter-final win at Healy Park.
The draw for the semi-finals has paired Donaghmore with Coalisland, while Dromore will meet Cookstown.
It will be the first time in nine years that neither of the county's big two, Errigal and Carrickmore, will be involved in the county final.
TYRONE: Defending champions Carrickmore retained their Tyrone senior hurling title at Healy Park yesterday.
Heroic displays by Leigh Moore and Justin Kelly inspired the Eire Ógs to 0-10 to 0-9 victory over a Dungannon side that just couldn't cope with the power of the holders in the final quarter.
