After a lengthy interrogation at Charing Cross police station in London yesterday jockey Dean Gallagher and six others had their bail extended to a date in November as officers continued their investigations into allegations of race-fixing and horse doping.

The six others, Brian Wright, Jason Moore, Ray Butler, Glen Gill, Adam Hodgson and John Mathews, also attended to answer questions.

Gallagher's solicitor Douglas Fordham, commented upon leaving the station: "Dean has been in the police station since approximately 11 o'clock this morning. He has been interviewed - he has not been charged - and there are a number of people the police are interviewing."

Gallagher was arrested in January along with fellow riders Jamie Osborne and Leighton Aspell, after two horses, Avanti Express and Lively Knight, failed drug tests after being beaten in races in March last year.

Aspell was cleared by the Metropolitan police in April. Osborne, the highest-profile jockey arrested in connection with allegations of race-fixing, was released without charge after being quizzed by police on Monday. Christopher Spence, senior steward of the Jockey Club, said: "The Jockey Club welcomes the decision that Jamie Osborne has not been charged by the police, and in the interests of Jamie Osborne, his family and racing we hope that the Crown Prosecution Service will reach an early conclusion and bring this unfortunate matter to an end."

First prize in the racecard draw at the O'Callaghan Hotels November race day at Leopardstown will be half ownership for a year of Alexander Banquet, the winner of the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Bumper last March. The eight-race card, which will be held on November 8th, the final day of the Irish Flat season, will carry prizemoney of £120,000, with the feature event the £25,000 O'Callaghan's Hotels November Handicap. The Jackpot will be guaranteed for £20,000.

Gold Cup-winning jockey Andrew Thornton, who only came back from injury last month, was hit with a seven-day ban by the Fontwell stewards for failing to ride out for second place on Millcroft Regatta in the Singleton Novices' Handicap Chase yesterday. The ban runs on October 15th, 16th and 17th, plus October 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd, and means Thornton misses the Charisma Gold Cup at Kempton.
