Course specialist Gallaher's Walk won the handicap hurdle for women riders for the second consecutive year at Tramore yesterday. Once again ridden by Aileen Sloane-Lee, the 2 to 1 favourite hit the front approaching the last for a comfortable success.
Gallaher's Walk's trainer Donie Hassett was back in the winner's enclosure 30 minutes later when Killimor Castle landed the 2m 6f handicap hurdle. The result, however, would surely have been different if Camden Confusion had not fallen after hitting the front at the penultimate flight.
Baltic Magic, twice a winner between the flags, opened his account in the beginners' chase when taking advantage of the misfortunes of his rivals. The favourite, Reggae Rhythm, who was brought down at the first, was one of six casualties.
Janidou easily justified his odds-on price in the opener, running out an eight-length winner. Arthur Moore said afterwards: "He is a decent sort and I will keep him to hurdles this season before sending him over fences next year." Moore was also complimentary of the prize-money on offer at the Co Waterford venue after his charge had landed this £10,000 maiden hurdle.
Satcoslam, partnered like Baltic Magic by Kieran Kelly, provided Leonard Whitmore with his first success since taking out a trainer's licence this year. The gelding looked in trouble when Ruby Walsh aboard the even money favourite, True Blue Victory, loomed upsides at the second last, but a bad mistake there left the 33 to 1 outsider to come home clear.
There was no Tote in operation as a mark of respect to the three members of Autotote who were killed in a road accident last Sunday while returning from Leopardstown.
