GALWAY UNITED boss John “Jumbo” Brennan will be hoping that the presence of club president, now Irish president-elect, Michael D Higgins at Terryland Park this evening will help to lift his players as they seek to overturn a two-goal deficit from their first promotion/relegation play-off against Monaghan United and save their place in top flight football for next season.
Brennan admits that his side, which has not won in 35 competitive matches, has no option at this stage but to “go for it” but they will again have to cope with injuries to the likes of Johnny Keane and Victor Collins while Seán Gavin is suspended after being sent off in Tuesday’s first leg.
Eric Foley is banned for the visitors after also having received a red card in the first leg but boss Roddy Collins has John Reilly back from suspension and the manager is expected to move Alan Byrne out of defence in order to take over from Foley in midfield.
