Galway 0-16 NUIG 0-6:Debutants David Finnegan, Conor Costello, John O'Brien, Seán Denvir and Shane Walsh impressed as Alan Mulholland's Galway got their Connacht League campaign off to a flying start at Tuam Stadium yesterday.
Robbie Kiely’s sending off ended any hope of a second successive win for NUIG over the intercounty side, and Mulholland was pleased his new charges slotted in with ease. “What we were looking for was a performance from the new guys and we got that. I wouldn’t say it was a spectacular, but we got over the line,” he said.
Michael Meehan shone in a full-forward line that featured Paul Conroy and Danny Cummins. Points from Cummins, Conroy and Meehan gave the intercounty team a 0-6 to 0-3 lead at half-time.
