Connacht League (SH) Final/Galway Development 1-18 GMIT 0-6:The wealth of talent available to Ger Loughnane for the season was underlined at the weekend when a Galway development squad won the final of the Connacht Hurling League in Athenry against a GMIT side preparing for the Fitzgibbon Cup.
The Galway development side, coached by All-Ireland winning under-21 boss Vincent Mullins, were far too superior for the students during a match that boiled over several times.
The Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology finished with just 13 players after centre back Brian Regan and wing forward Conor Hynes were sent off by referee Michael Haverty.
Galway were always on top, leading by 0-9 to 0-5 at half-time having played against the wind.
And they dominated the second half, picking off fine points before Paul Killilea scored the only goal six minutes from the end.
