Connacht Under-21 FC Final/ Galway 1-13 Mayo 0-4: Holders Mayo produced another nightmare final display as they tamely surrendered their Connacht under-21 crown at Pearse Stadium on Saturday night after playing 50 minutes without managing a single score.

Indeed, it took an effort by James McAndrew to register their only score of the second half.

Galway were impressive as manager Peter Ford collected his first silverware for the county, against his native county. They led by 0-5 to 0-3 playing against the wind, with Mayo's tactic of using a two-man full forward line failing to work to plan.

The loss of key forward John Prenty to injury after 15 minutes did not help the champions' hopes as they managed just one point from play when Damien Munnelly pointed after 11 minutes to put them 0-3 to 0-2 in front. They were not to score again until the last minute.

Galway struck four points without reply within six minutes of the restart. Sean Armstrong, who landed two from sideline kicks, was on target along with Cathal Blake and Michael Meehan as they went 0-9 to 0-3 ahead.

Any notion of a comeback were dismissed after 43 minutes when Meehan drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
