MAYO: Mayo footballers' preparations for the Connacht championship have been dealt a potentially cruel blow with a major injury worry over defender Peadar Gardiner.
Gardiner went off with a knee injury in a club championship game on Saturday night. Tests over the next few days will reveal the extent of the injury. Gardiner came off as his side Crossmolina drew with Breaffy in the opening round of the Mayo senior championship - and intercounty team-mate Ciarán McDonald declined to play in the same game. He is understood to have been unhappy with his selection on the full-forward line.
LIMERICK: Limerick footballers' hopes of capturing the elusive Munster crown have been hit by the news that attacker Eoin Keating has broken his collarbone - for the third time in nine months.
He sustained the injury playing for Monaleen against Adare in the senior football championship on Friday night.
"I am out for two months at least. They will probably have to break it again and put a pin in it, because there must be some sort of a weakness in it," he said.
Better news for Limerick manager Liam Kearns was the return from injury of goalkeeper Séamus O'Donnell. Out of action since last year's Munster final defeat by Kerry because of a leg injury, O'Donnell came on a as a second-half substitute for club St Kieran's in their domestic championship defeat by Claughaun at the weekend.
