MEN'S HOCKEY WEEKEND PREVIEW:GLENANNE HAVE a double weekend that could well push them up the league table from their current fourth position.
That, however, depends on taking current league leaders Three Rock Rovers at Grange Road and then Fingal in Glenanne Park on Sunday.
Doubtlessly the Glenanne players will see points gathering but given the stature of the two teams, there could also be room for a massive slip-up if the Glens are not in top gear for both.
The leading teams in Ireland are all coming fresh from the six Irish Hockey League games that went ahead in the freezing conditions last week (those that were postponed will be played on December 14th), but Rovers are looking more like a team that can stick the pace. Injury hit but still firing, they have scored 20 goals in seven matches.
Pembroke, who are just two behind Rovers, have dropped points at home and away but are also still unbeaten. They will face Monkstown at home in the hope of keeping the pressure on Rovers. It's a big game for Monkstown, who are holding their own this season and were a goal up last week against Ulster's Lisnagarvey until the players were marched off the frozen pitch. In third place on the table, they will have ideas of upsetting Pembroke. A shock win here and the 'town could leap into second place.
At the bottom, UCD and YMCA are both in trouble, with the Claremont Road side looking the more likely to come through this weekend with something to show. 'YM face Kilkenny in Dublin, while bottom of the table UCD face sixth-placed Corinthians.
In Ulster league leaders Cookstown face Instonians in their inimitably named grounds at Coolnafranky, while second placed Annadale are hosts to Bangor.
