MEN'S HOCKEY: GLENANNE'S DRAW with Three Rock Rovers on Saturday and their 5-1 win over Fingal yesterday at Glenanne Park, combined with Pembroke's 3-0 win over Monkstown, tightened up things somewhat at the top of the Leinster Senior League over the weekend.

Peter McConnell and Patrick Shanahan were on target for Rovers, but they just couldn't pull away from Glenanne. Graham Shaw gave Glenanne the lead before two quick second-half strikes from McConnell and Shanahan put Rovers ahead. Stephen Butler's effort from the penalty sport levelled the scores on the hour and that is how the sides finished, despite Glenanne hitting the woodwork three times.

The Glens win yesterday over Fingal was more convincing and leaves them in second place in the table with 18 points, just two points behind leaders Rovers. Again international Butler was on target with two goals with Shane O'Donoghue adding two as well and Gary Shaw netting one for a five-goal rout.

Glenanne's weekend points tally pushes Pembroke into third place but the Serpentine Avenue side have a game in hand. Alan Sothern was on target twice for Pembroke in their emphatic win.
