Darren Clarke returned a second successive level par 70 to finish with a total of 288, eight over par, after yesterday's final round of the NEC World Series of Golf at the Firestone Country Club in Ohio. Greg Norman won the tournament by four strokes.
Clarke went two under par for the day, after making birdies at the first and fifth; but he was unable to make any further progress in the torrential rain and dropped shots at the 6th and 10th holes. Only six players broke par on the day.
"I played well all week, even when I shot that 76 in the second round," said Clarke. "I thought when I came here I would score better than I actually did. I had lots of chances and just didn't take them.
Norman pulled away from the field with a 67, while defending champion Phil Mickelson shot 72 for second.
