The ban on the members of Tullamore Golf Club will not be extended beyond the minimum one month following a meeting of the GUI yesterday.
The ban was imposed on September 6th following the GUI's investigation into the value of a prize awarded at Tullamore Golf Club which was a serious breach of the Rules of Amateur Status, as approved by the R&A Rules Ltd, and the constitution of the Golfing Union of Ireland.
Yesterday's statement from the GUI read: "Following a special general meeting of the central council, at which the Leinster provincial council reported its findings arising from its investigation into breaches of the Rules of Amateur Status, as approved by R&A Rules Ltd, and the constitution of the Golfing Union of Ireland, central council has agreed not to extend the suspension of Tullamore Golf Club beyond the minimum period of one month.
"Central council considered the report of the Leinster provincial council which arose due to the value of the Tullamore Captain's Prize exceeding the limit as specified in the Rules of Amateur Status, and accepted the assurances from Tullamore that systems are now in place in the club to prevent any possibility of a recurrence."
Central council confirmed that the suspension imposed on Tuesday, September 6th, 2005, will be lifted from midnight on Monday, October 10th, 2005.
