Fergal Harkin's first league goal for Finn Harps put the Donegal side on their way to a comfortable victory over Waterford United on Saturday night.

Harkin's fierce right-foot shot flew over Jody Byrne into the top corner in the 34th minute to give Harps the lead from their first shot on goal after a very patchy opening from both sides.

Indeed, Waterford had the best of the first half-hour, but with only Jason Kabia up front they were unable to make their possession pay and they never really threatened the Harps goal.

Once Harps had taken the lead bossed dominated the game completely.

Their second goal came just before the interval, even if it was fortuitous. Donal O'Brien flicked Eamonn Kavanagh's 44th-minute corner on and as Tim McGrath hacked it away from the goal, the ball hit Jonathan Speak and bounced into the net.
