HARLEQUINS exacted some revenge for losing their league title to UCC this season when they beat the students, after extra time, in the Munster Senior Cup women's hockey final at Garryduff on Saturday.
UCC's dreams of completing a league and cup double were ended in the 16th minute of extra time when a Karen Barry goal gave Harlequins a 3-2 ahead, one they did not relinquish to retain the trophy they won by beating the same opponents in last year's final.
Barry had also scored the opening goal of the game, after 10 minutes, but EJ Walsh equalised just before the half-time break, and a scoreless second half sent the game in to extra time.
When Walsh scored again to put UCC 2-1 ahead the double looked on, but Harlequins fought back, first through an equaliser by Connacht's Shirine Young and, finally, through Barry's winning goal.
