Jonathan Edwards v Yoelbi Quesada

Another captivating battle for gold as Britain's Jonathan Edwards hopes to recover the world title he surrendered by the narrowest of margins to Yoelbi Quesada of Cuba two years ago in Athens.

All the indications are that this one will be just as close. Edwards has competed more regularly this season, including the best jump of the year with his 17.52 metres in Lahti, Finland last month. Quesada, however, has been showing excellent form in championship competitions and at 33, Edwards will find it hard to recover the form which saw him improve the world record to 18.29 metres when winning his first world title in Gothenburg in 1995.

Quesada, seven years the younger having just turned 26, recorded his best of 17.85 metres when taking the gold medal in Athens. If he can find a jump like that tonight, Edwards may be in trouble.
