SPORTS DIGEST: RowingThe new Irish rowing high performance director should be chosen within two weeks. It is understood two men are set for the second round of interviews. However, the number of applications for chief executive of Rowing Ireland has been disappointing, and acting chief executive Frank Coghlan said yesterday today's deadline would be extended for two weeks.
The Dublin Sculling Ladder time trial tomorrow should attract similar numbers to last year, when 149 scullers took part in the event, which is run from Garda Boat Club. Next Saturday's Skibbereen head of the river at the National Rowing Centre has drawn an entry of just under 300. Richard and Peter Chambers return to compete at Dorney Lake, where they took their Olympic silver medal, for the Diamond Jubilee Rowing Championships, while Alan Campbell is set to compete at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
