Irish boxers fought a draw with Denmark in Copenhagen on Saturday night, winning four of the eight contests on the bill. The Irish winners were Terry Carlyle, Eugene McEneaney, Leon Senior and Sean Collier while Damien McKenna, Frank O'Brien, Keith Whelan and John Kiely lost their contests.

Carlyle, from the Sacred Heart club in Tallaght, scored a convincing victory over Martin Kristansen in the 57kg category and in the same division McKenna, from Drogheda, lost 5-23 to Spend Abazi. In the 60kg division McEneaney, of the Dealgan club, beat Tommy Schmidt 17-8. Ireland lost both of the 71kg bouts. O'Brien, from Crumlin, went under to Fawas Nasir 169 and Whelan lost 13-7 to Mark Gravensen.

At 75kg, Leon Senior from Crumlin beat Denis Arslan 4035 on a countback after the scores were level on the first count but Collier, at 81kg, knocked out Jimmy Andersen in the second round of their bout to set Ireland up for a victory. However, Steffan Nielson beat John Kiely from Limerick in the super heavyweight division by 14-3 to earn a draw for the Danes.
