King's Hospital advanced as expected to the quarter-finals of the Leinster Schools' Senior Cup for the first time since 1998 when they edged past a spirited St Andrew's side at Lakelands Park yesterday.

St Andrew's made a steady start against their fancied opponents, but it was the Palmerstown team who took the lead in the 15th minute with a try from Lee Russell.

Outhalf Philip Caldwell atoned for an earlier missed penalty with a conversion. Hospital moved further ahead in the 33rd minute when prop and captain David Myers went through to score a try which Caldwell converted.

St Andrew's came back into contention in the 38th minute when prop Mark Mansfield drove over in a central position and Conor McMullen converted.
