Wincanton's charity race meeting certainly had it all yesterday when legendary jockey Lester Piggott paraded aboard another racing great Desert Orchid. Much to the delight of a large crowd, Lester unveiled a new talent in the Piggott family when his young son, Jamie, partnered the grey pony Cabby. The featured race of the afternoon, the Vixen Desert Orchid South Western Pattern Chase, had its moments as well. Last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Cool Dawn slipped up in the parade ring before being pulled up when tailed off on his reappearance. However, trainer Robert Alner, who refused to blame the fall for Cool Dawn's poor performance, landed the £19,000 race with favourite Super Tactics.
